Thankful Thursday

I have so much to be thankful for and I really cannot wait until Thanksgiving. I am truly blessed. My good friend Nanette invited me to be a part of THANKFUL THURSDAYS on Tumblr. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. Sooo … here goes:

My family (The Kiwanukas):
Most especially my sister and best friend Kass. I say that name with the utmost pride and walk around with my head held high like ‘you can’t tell me nothing, I’m a Kiwanuka!’ Haha. I don’t know who or where I’d be without this crazy bunch. We may laugh in the morning just to fight in the evening but at the end of the day, we’re doing what we’re doing together. Bless.

Batabazi and BaSe Ent:
For giving me the opportunity to express myself artistically. Every year, our team grows stronger as a musical unit and closer as friends. No, scratch that … FAMILY. I don’t always get to say it but appreciate you all so much. See you in a few hours ;-)

My Friends:
What would we do without friends? You know the ones I’m talking about; The friend you call at 3am just to ask, “What you doing?”, the friend you have not talked to for a month or so because life got crazy but when you finally do get a second alone, you catch up like you haven’t skipped a beat. The friend who knows the exact moment you need a little cheering you up…. The list goes on and on. I appreciate the hand you lend and I pray I support each and every one of you the way you support me.

Yes, this post is over emotional for a random Thursday in the year, but I don’t care … I’m thankful. Xo

I Heard …

I heard the old man say,
“Pay no mind to the youth of today

Times have changed, I’m told, for the worse.
All around, I see my own: immune,
Shrugging shoulders at a world that turns not to catch our eyes
As we walk on by.
Labelled the “lost generation”,
The misfits of a nation,
We supposedly wander far and near.
For those before us claim they lay each brick, straight and clear.

I heard the old man say,
“He who knows not must be turned away.”

I tremble
For those misguided few
Scared eternally by another’s inhumanity,
And for those who sought knowledge in order to earn
Only to brutatlly realize the price we pay to learn.
In a frail existence where stars can no longer be reached,
And dreams have met reason and reality,
I tremble for those still fast asleep
Yet the morning hour has already reached.

I heard the old man say,
“You laze today, tomorrow you pay.”

The worth of a life is determined not by how good things are
but by how much good that one life has got.
Under every mask, inside every concealed form,
Lies a pure and whole being.
How much longer shall the youth stand in silence
Awaiting our turn to arise?
The time is now to make the change
So the world can see through our eyes.

Pain and Healing

I cried today; something that I
Have not done in a very long time.
Gripping my heart is this pain; unsized,
But I’m much too busy to analyze.
I did not even notice the first drop fall;
Did not recognize the feeling of sadness at all.
On and on, the hours crept,
And in my solitude, I sadly wept.

Day 2. The tears attacked again with no refrain,
Caused by that same tormenting ache.
Alike in shape and quality,
They differed only in magnitude and quantity.
I felt those dreadful tears
As they tracked their path, straight and clear.
Just as I thought I could go on,
The last one fell with the crack of dawn.

Another day. The joy in my soul
Has been clouded by what was once the deepest pain of all.
“No more shall I cry,” to myself I say
I guess it means I’m starting on my way.
No. Not today, I’ll just regain my strength
And work on rebuilding my shattered faith.
Wherever the pieces of my puzzle fit
My new path will grow in it.

I arose today, something that I
Find myself loving after such a long while.
Today, the world could all be mine
Because the day started, and I’m alright.
Another day with it’s unique melody
The tune sung by fate and destiny.
I arose today, ready to face the day
Now I’m proudly on my way.

Just Me

tknn:

Been doing a lot of soul searching and learning to love me which I do right now. I am in a good place, I love myself more; not just the outside but the inside as well. I have fixed most of my broken relationships be it family and friends or that annoying person at work. I can finally truely say for once in my life I am at peace with who I am and with everything happening in my life. For that I am forever graterful to the BigMan up there.
